This is not the start the Oshawa Generals were looking for.

A 7-3 drubbing at the hands of the Ottawa 67s at TD Place in the nation’s capital Thanksgiving Monday dropped the Gens to 0-3 on the season, with just one shootout loss point to show for their efforts.

Rookie phenom Calum Ritchie is one very bright spot to the team’s start and the 16 year-old scored his third goal in as many games and with Luke Torrance adding another score with a minute remaining in the opening period, Oshawa found themselves up 2-1 after one.

But the 67s responded quickly and without mercy, scoring six straight goals – including two by Jack Matier, who added three assists in the game for a five-point night – to break the match open. A third period marker by Ryan Stepien made the final 7-3 for the home team.

Jack Beck, with a pair, Vinzenz Rohrer, Anthony Costantini and Vsevolod Gaidamak scored the other Ottawa goals. Zach Paputsakis took the loss and the brunt of the 67s attack. Patrick Leaver came in for the third.

Things got a little rough in the final period, with 30 minutes in penalties called, including four fighting majors.

The Generals will get another crack at their first win – and at the 67s – when they revisit TD Place next Friday before returning home for a date with arch-rival Peterborough Sunday night at the Trib.
