There is no timeline yet for when the Toronto-bound Queen Elizabeth Way in Burlington will fully reopen, following a truck fire early Thursday morning.

The crash near the Skyway Bridge backed up traffic not on both the QEW and the eastbound Highway 403. There was also intense congestion in downtown Hamilton as motorists took detours. The Hamilton Street Railway reported numerous delays on its bus routes.

As of 7 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 9), one lane of the QEW remains closed. Neither the Ontario Provincial Police nor the Ministry of Transportation social media channels had any indication of when all lanes would open. The highway was damaged when a tractor-trailer hauling a load of batteries caught fire, which likely means that it will take until some time Friday to complete the clean-up and repair work.
