Rideshare carjacked with passengers on board leads to charges for Brampton man

Toronto police have charged a Brampton man following a shooting and armed rideshare carjacking with passengers on board.

Gunshots rang out shortly before 3:30 a.m. near Polson Street and Cherry Street in the Toronto waterfront area, the Toronto Police Service says.
Investigators say there was a shootout between multiple suspects and at least one of the shooters was hit by gunfire.

And that’s when the injured shooter stole a vehicle from a rideshare driver that had customers on board. The man struck pedestrians and vehicles while making his escape but was arrested by police and taken into custody.

A firearm was recovered inside the vehicle, investigators say.
