Restored Oakville coach house celebrating grand opening

Oakville’s rich history has a newly restored home.
Local residents are invited to come out and celebrate the town’s history at the official grand opening of the newly revamped Oakville Museum Coach House on Saturday, May 14 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Located at 8 Navy St., visitors to the town’s newest venue for museum and community programming, and learn about its fascinating history.
The grand opening will also feature a horse and carriage photo op, family-friendly Edwardian-era games, treats, live entertainment, and the new exhibit Matter of Material on the grounds of Erchless Estate.
Official remarks begin at 1 p.m.
“Oakville is rich in history and I am looking forward to the celebrating the newly restored Coach House at Oakville Museum with the community,” said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. “The space is a great addition to our venues for museum and community programming.”

Built in 1899, the heritage landmark originally housed the horses, carriages and gardener’s cottage for Erchless Estate. It had many roles over the years, including the most recent use as a storage facility for the Oakville Museum.
Construction on the restoration project began back in March of 2021.
The space was enhanced and restored, including the Gardner’s Cottage, to create a multi-purpose venue that protected the archeological and cultural heritage significance of the Coach House and surrounding grounds.

Visitors are being reminded to continue following COVID-19 public health guidance to protect yourself and others, which include getting vaccinated, staying home if you’re sick and washing or sanitizing your hands frequently.
Halton Region Public Health strongly recommends that local residents continue to wear high quality masks in indoor settings where physical distancing may be a challenge.
