Brampton Park Construction

Rosalea Park, a favoured location in central Brampton, has been at the center of some controversy lately.

Earlier this month, one individual took to Brampton’s Reddit page to air their grievances surrounding the clear-cutting of trees for an upcoming construction project in the park.

Major points of contention surrounded the alleged lack of city bulletins, as according to the post’s original author, there was little to no advanced notice before construction started. Several individuals also commented on the post in an attempt to dissect the reasoning behind the construction, citing several ongoing projects, such as the city’s Riverwalk Project.

We don’t matter; playing with our kids, walking our dogs or reading in the shade of one of those beautiful trees that are all going, going and gone… All that matters to City Council is tearing down all that was once historic and beautiful and developing us to death,” read the initial post.

Insauga.com reached out to the City of Brampton for clarification on Rosalea Park’s ongoing makeover.

“Construction currently underway at Rosalea Park is for the development of three new public tennis courts, specifically for Brampton youth, in response to an increase in demand for youth tennis. The tennis courts will be winterized to ensure they can be enjoyed year-round,” said city representatives via email.

The City of Brampton also posted an update two days after the initial Reddit post, which included an official project timeline and details surrounding upcoming park amenities. Apart from winter domes for the proposed tennis courts, additional parking sections are also being installed.

Beyond that, 30 new trees are also being planted, so residents may only have to wait a few months to enjoy their desired shade as the project is anticipated to be completed by November of this year.
