A newly created community group has formed to fight against a proposed 26-storey condo in downtown Burlington.

The Wellington Community Residents Association is an amalgamation of ratepayer groups from the St. Luke’s and Emerald Precincts.

The group has started a petition to stop the Carriage Gate project proposed by Renimmob Properties at 535-551 Brant St.

It is against the development for a number reasons including the impact on the surrounding neighbourhood and the precedent an approval would have on high-rises in downtown Burlington, among other reasons.

The developer could not be reached for comment.

The proposed development application calls for a 26-storey mixed use building with approximately 248 residential units with ground floor commercial units.
