Residents raise concerns over proposed six-storey condo in Georgetown

Several residents are concerned about a six-storey condo with 155 units that has been proposed in Georgetown.
At a recent Halton Hills council meeting, several residents voiced their concerns about the potential negative impacts that could come as a result of the proposed condo at 12, 22 and 24 Dayfoot Dr.
One resident anticipated traffic implications, particularly with high school traffic, and noted that it would be a “huge problem.”
In response to this concern, Evans Planning Inc. confirmed that a traffic study had in fact been conducted to assess current and future conditions.
While the study showed that the site would generate one car per minute at peak hours and determined that local roadways would be able to accommodate the generated traffic, they understood that more technical analysis could be required.
It was also noted that they are looking into providing a robust bike parking facility with potential e-bike parking in order to provide enough spaces for anyone who would require one, while also leveraging the location of the GO station and other amenities within close walking distance from the site at Dayfoot Dr.

Another concern raised by a resident had to do with the fact that the proposed building would be located by a landfill. As a result, the resident questioned how exactly they would plan for a sustainable river system, to which they were told that it would require additional studies.
Currently, two homes sit on the proposed lands meaning that they would need to be demolished in order for construction to begin.
Additionally, in order for the development to move forward, council will first need to approve amendments to the official plan and zoning bylaws.
As a result of the concerns, Town staff is set to review the plans further and will bring a report with recommendations back to council members at a future meeting.
