Concerns are being raised after the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) requested that an elementary school in Milton temporarily operate as a secondary school.

The HCDSB has requested a Temporary-Use Zoning By-law Amendment for Milton #10 Catholic Elementary School. Should this be approved, the school could operate as a secondary school for at least one year and possibly longer.

The school is known municipally as 675 Kennedy Circ. W and is located east of Sixteen Mile Creek, south of Louis St. Laurent and north of Britannia Rd.

Last month, the school board conducted a virtual meeting to gather feedback on this possibility, which resulted in mixed reviews.

At an upcoming Milton council meeting on Mar. 21, three residents will be voicing their concerns about this possibility.

One resident will be emphasizing the potential effect on children, particularly after all the changes that came with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Another resident who is set to speak has even described it as “a terrible location for a high school.”

Milton #10 Catholic Elementary School is set to have a total of 671 elementary student spaces, 88 new licensed child-care spaces and five new child-care rooms.

The meeting on Mar. 21 is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
