Possible gunshots near a Brampton elementary school have led police to place the school on a hold-and-secure order.

Peel Regional Police say officers were called to the area of Dorset Dr. Dorchester Dr. in Brampton shortly before 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday after receiving reports of possible gunshots.

Officers placed nearby Dorset Drive Public School under a hold-and-secure order as a precaution, according to police.

Just before 3:15 p.m., police said the hold and secure had been lifted and students were returning to class. Officers canvased the area and did not find any evidence of gun shots, and said the complaint may have been deu to workers in the area.

A hold and secure is meant to prevent unauthorized persons from entering a school building when a potential threat arises in the area.

Last month, police placed three Brampton schools on hold and secure orders on consecutive days, including an incident of possible gunshots.

Monday, Sept. 26, four schools were placed under hold and secure due to the sighting of a gun, which police later determined was not real.

And then on Sept. 27, two secondary schools were placed under hold and secure for an armed robbery with a knife in the same area as Monday’s incident. Police have made one arrest related to the incident and are still searching for a second suspect.
