Relief available for storm-ravaged Uxbridge residents

The State of Emergency in Uxbridge is over but help is still available for those affected by the devastation caused by the EF-2 Tornado that touched down in the town May 21.
The Township rescinded the State of Emergency on June 27.
Local assistance is available through the Durham Region Social Services satellite office at 2 Campbell Dr., which is open Mondays and Thursdays each week from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Various resources are available including family counselling and drop-in appointments are welcome.

Provincial aid is also available and Queen’s Park has activated the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians (DRAO) program for Township of Uxbridge residents who qualify. The deadline for application is Monday Oct. 17. The Township is still picking up tree debris from the storm and has completed in-town pick-up north of Brock St and south of Brock St., east of Main St. Any tree debris placed at the curb after crews have completed pick-up on a given street will not be removed by the Township. Durham Region will accept bundled tree branches and bagged tree debris as part of their regular yard waste pick-up.

Donations can also be made to the Uxbridge Loaves and Fishes Foodbank or the Uxbridge Salvation Army.
