RECALLS: Children’s toys, henna, plates and wall chargers recalled this week in Ontario

Residents are urged to inspect their households for the following products which could present various health hazards including choking, fires, and chemical burns.

Here are the items being recalled this week from stores in Ontario.


Fisher-Price Little People Mickey & Friends Figure Packs

Fisher-Price Little People® Mickey and Friends Figures

The Donald Duck and Daisy Duck figures sold as part of the Fisher-Price Little People, Mickey and Friends figure pack are only part of the recall.

The Donald Duck figure wears a blue shirt with yellow stripes, a blue and black hat, and a red bow tie. Daisy Duck has on a light purple shirt, a turquoise necklace and bracelet, pink shoes, and a pink bow in her hair.

Both figures have their arms stretched out and are about 2.75 inches tall.

The Donald and Daisy Duck figures, part of a set sold in Canada, have the model number HPJ88. This number is located on the base of the Goofy figure included in the pack.

The issue with the toys is that the heads of Donald Duck and Daisy Duck can become detached during use.

The company reported that 11,321 units of the affected products were sold in Canada and approximately 204,000 were sold in the United States between June 2023 and February 2024.

Risks: Poses choking hazard to children.

What you should do: Stop using the Donald Duck and Daisy Duck figures and contact Mattel for a refund.

As of March 21, the company has received no reports of the product detaching or any injuries in Canada. In the United States, the company has received three reports of the heads detaching from the toys. No injuries have been reported.


Shakeel Bhai Mehndi Waley Henna Cones

Shakeel Bhai Mehndi Waley - Original Zeenat Special Henna Cone

The recalled products are:

  • Shakeel Bhai Mehndi Waley’s Almas Henna Cone is packaged in an orange triangle and registered “431663.”
  • The Original Special Zeenat Henna Cone from Shakeel Bhai Mehndi Waley is in a yellow triangle package with registration “152393.”
  • Shakeel Bhai Mehndi Waley’s Special Bridal Henna Cone is in a red triangle package and is trademarked “329614.”

Health Canada notes that they are aware that several importers have sold these products throughout Canada and are actively looking to gather more information.

The recalled products have been found to contain phenol, a substance prohibited in Canada due to its harmful effects. Phenol and similar compounds can cause skin allergies and even chemical burns.

The companies reported that approximately 47,472 units of the affected products were sold in Canada at various retailers from August 2019 to March 2024.

Risks: Poses chemical hazard.

What you should do: Discontinue using the recalled henna and dispose of it in regular household garbage.

As of March 24, There have been three reports of incidents related to using the Special Bridal Henna Cone product.


Elin Dessert Plates Sold by Anthropologie

Elin Dessert Plate – Lilac Colour, Front

The recall only affects the lilac-coloured plates.

The plates have designs of orange mushrooms, moths, and ferns. They have scalloped edges and are 21 cm in diameter. “By ANTHROPOLOGIE” is printed on the back of the plate.

Health Canada’s tests found that the recalled plates have too much cadmium which is very toxic, particularly to kids.

Exposure to cadmium can cause severe health problems like anemia, vomiting, diarrhea, serious brain damage, seizures, coma, and issues with the liver, kidneys, heart, and immune system. In severe cases, it can be fatal.

The company reported that 229 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between June 2022 to Feb. 2024.

Risks: Poses health hazards.

What you should do: Stop using the plates and dispose of them in regular household trash.

As of March 21, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.


ADS brand USB wall chargers recalled

Dual USB & USB C Wall Charger

The recall includes ADS’s white Dual USB & USB C Wall Charger (model 1522M) and the 3 mAh Fast Charging Wall Charger (model 1519) available in white or black. UPC codes for these items are 037553484124 and 777476015196.

Health Canada’s sampling and evaluation program has found that these products are highly likely to cause electric shocks and fires.

The company reported that 3,600 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between May 2021 to February 2024.

Risks: Poses fire and electrical hazards.

What you should do: Discontinue using the chargers and dispose of them in accordance with municipal electronic waste requirements or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

As of Feb. 29, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.
