A recall has been issued for more than 18,000 vehicles in Canada and owners are being told to not use one of the seats.
Transport Canada said in a notice that the bracket that secures the rear centre seat belt buckle in the impacted vehicles “may not have been manufactured properly.”
“As a result, the seat belt could detach in a crash,” officials said.
“A seat belt that detaches in a crash could increase the risk of injury.”
The recall is from Hyundai and involves the 2025 and 2026 Kona EV models, as well as the 2026 Kona.
Overall, there are 18,339 vehicles affected in Canada.
“To reduce the safety risk, Hyundai advises that you shouldn’t transport a passenger in the rear center seat until the recall repairs are completed,” Transport Canada said.
“Hyundai will notify owners in writing and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the rear center seat belt buckle.”
Meanwhile, on Tuesday INsauga.com reported on another vehicle recall that included a warning for owners.
The driver and/or the front passenger seat motors on the the 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 Kia Telluride models could become stuck and cause them to not stop.
That could create the risk of a fire, even when the vehicle is parked and turned off.
Kia is advising owners to park their Telluride outside and away from other vehicles and structures until the repairs have been completed in order to reduce the safety risk.
There are 20,563 vehicles in Canada that are impacted by that recall.
