RECALL: 242,000 vehicles impacted as major recalls issued in Canada

Test results from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency have prompted a recall in Canada.

The CFIA said in a notice that the recall is “due to possible salmonella contamination.”

The affected product is the Hafez brand “Sugerless” Halva with Date Syrup.

It’s 400 g in size, has the UPC number 8 15872 00501 1 and the following codes are impacted: BB 12_26 35/11420.

It was distributed in Ontario and British Columbia.

Consumers are being advised to check to see if they have the product.

It should be thrown out or returned to where it was bought.

“Food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections,” the CFIA said.

“Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.”

There haven’t been any reported illnesses associated with the product.

The CFIA said it’s conducting an investigation which may lead to more recalls.

“The CFIA is verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace,” the notice said.
