More than 26,000 vehicles have been recalled in Canada amid a fire risk.

Transport Canada said the engine starter on the vehicles “may not have been manufactured properly” and could overheat.

“A starter that overheats can create the risk of a fire,” officials said.

Officials said it’s an expansion of a previous recall that had the Transport Canada number 2026-040.

“To reduce the safety risk, BMW recommends not using the remote start function and not leaving the vehicle unattended with the engine running until the recall repairs have been completed,” officials said.

“BMW will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the engine starter.”
