Rabies, micro-chip clinic in Pickering May 4

A low-cost Rabies Vaccination and Microchip Clinic is being offered in Pickering on May 4 by Pickering Animal Services, in partnership with Durham Health and Millennium City Veterinary Hospital.
The clinic will happen at the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex (O’Brien Room), from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each service is $30.
Vaccinating pets against rabies and using microchips are “crucial steps” to ensure their safety, said Pickering Animal Services Supervisor Lindsey Narraway.
The rabies vaccine prevents animals from contracting the disease if they encounter a rabid animal, and a microchip is a form of identification that carries a unique ID number and can serve as proof of ownership.
“As responsible pet owners, it’s our duty to create a safe environment for everyone in our community – both people and pets,” Narraway said. “By keeping your pet’s vaccinations up-to-date and ensuring they’re microchipped, you not only protect their health, but ensure that if your pet goes missing there’s a greater chance you’ll be reunited.”
This is a drop-in clinic, and no registration is required. Attendees can park in the back near the arena entrance and arrive with pets on a leash or in a carrier.

All dogs entering must comply with the City and provincial by-laws and regulations and breeds with characteristics similar to a Pit Bull must wear a muzzle.
