More QEW lanes in Mississauga to be shut down due to construction

Two lanes and an on-ramp on the QEW in Mississauga will be shut down tonight into early tomorrow morning (Sept. 12-13) as crews continue work on rehabilitation of the highway bridge over the Credit River.

Officials with the QEW/Credit River Improvement Project, who are overseeing the massive undertaking, say two westbound lanes from Hurontario St. to the Credit River bridge will be impacted by the latest in a series of ongoing closures.

Meanwhile, the Hurontario St. on-ramp to the westbound QEW will be closed from 7 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. Tuesday.

As for the lane closures tonight, the first westbound lane will be shut down to traffic from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. while the second lane will close from midnight to 5 a.m.

Project officials say they anticipate minor traffic disruptions tonight/tomorrow morning while the lanes are closed to allow for transport trucks to deliver material to the site.

Meanwhile, officials have also planned seven consecutive nights of lane/ramp closures that started Sept. 11 in an effort to get as much work in before winter arrives.

The following lane closures are in effect Sept. 11 through 17:

  • QEW eastbound from Erin Mills Pkwy. to the Credit River bridge–first lane from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, second lane from midnight to 5 a.m.
  • QEW westbound from Hurontario St. to Erin Mills Pkwy.–first lane from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly, second lane from midnight to 5 a.m.

In addition to the lane closures, the QEW westbound off-ramp to Mississauga Rd. will be closed to traffic the nights/overnights of Sept. 13 and 14.

On those two nights, the off-ramp’s first lane will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. with a full off-ramp closure slated for midnight to 5 a.m.

Notices of temporary lane and ramp closures on the QEW in Mississauga have been coming fast and furious in the past month.

QEW/Credit River Improvement Project officials have been putting out closure notices almost every other day.

As work continues on the Credit River bridge project, drivers and area residents can expect ongoing traffic disruptions to impact part of the QEW and other areas in the vicinity of Mississauga Rd. and the highway in the coming weeks and months.

Night and weekend work along the 2.6-km stretch of the QEW from Hurontario St. to Mississauga Rd. is expected to impact traffic for the duration of construction.
