Lane closures on the Burlington Skyway start tonight and continue until Monday.
Construction on the bridge that takes QEW traffic over Hamilton Harbour begins tonight (Oct. 24 ) at 10 p.m. and will continue until Monday (Oct. 27) at 5 a.m.
During this time, two westbound left lanes heading to Niagara on the bridge will be closed,
During this time, the westbound lanes heading to Niagara on the bridge will be reduced to two lanes.
All ramps from the Eastport Drive Collector to the Skyway Bridge will be closed at these times.
The Northshore Boulevard interchange will remain open.
Eastport Drive collector lanes and Eastport Drive can be used as a detour/alternate route.
The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is carrying out the work that has been taking place intermittently for the past several years.
According to information provided by the MTO, the work on the Skyway is meant to extend the lifespan of the bridge and, ultimately, improve driving conditions through the area. The work is expected to be completed late in 2026.
The work includes:
- removal and replacement of the concrete barrier walls
- repair of the concrete bridge deck
- bridge deck waterproofing
- new highway lighting
- improved signage
- drainage improvements
- paving of the Niagara-bound lanes
