Province puts out call for companies to bid on building the new South Niagara Hospital

The design for the new South Niagara Hospital, which will be located in Niagara Falls, was completed and okayed a while back.
Now the Province is looking for the construction company to build it. To that end, they have just issued a request for proposal (RFP) and opened it up to interested firms.
(An RFP is a business document that announces a project, describes it, and solicits bids from qualified contractors to complete it. Most organizations prefer to launch their projects using RFPs, and many governments always use them.)
The new South Niagara Hospital, which will span 1.3 million square feet on a 49.8-acre greenfield site, is proposed to be a 470-bed, full acute care hospital featuring centers of excellence specializing in stroke, complex care, geriatric and psychogeriatrics, and wellness in aging.
It will also include a 24/7 emergency department and services for critical care, surgical, mental health and addiction, kidney care and dialysis, and testing and research.
Lynn Guerriero, President and Chief Executive Officer of Niagara Health, was happy with the announcement, knowing it meant the new hospital, expected to open 2026-27, was getting closer to reality.

“The release of the RFP is a significant milestone and brings us one-step closer to delivering a state-of-the-art hospital as part of its vision to create a world-class, high-quality healthcare experience for the residents of Niagara,” said Guerriero.
Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff referred to the RFP as a key factor in moving forward, also alluding to the subsequent expansion of the existing West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, which was built in 1943 and is in dire need of an upgrade.
“The release of the RFP for the new South Niagara Hospital is a is a key milestone towards the new build. This is great news for South Niagara,” said Oosterhoff.
“With this new build, and the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital rebuild in West Niagara, the Niagara Region will have a significant number of brand-new health care facilities, which will ensure patients and their families receive the best possible care.”
