Province provides $46.4 million for new high school in north Oshawa

The new, as yet unnamed North Oshawa Public Secondary School got a $46.4 million boost to its bank account Friday, thanks to an investment from the provincial government.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce was in town for the announcement, which support the creation of 1,387 secondary student spaces in north Oshawa and is part of nearly $500 million for new school and child care projects announced recently.
The overall investment will support 37 schools and child care centres and add more than 15,000 new student spaces and 1,500 licensed child care spaces around Ontario.
“We are building new schools, building more affordable child care spaces, and building hope and opportunity for Ontario students as they learn in more normal and safer classrooms,” said Lecce. “We believe that students deserve to learn in-person in state-of-the-art facilities that are internet connected, accessible, with modern ventilation systems, which is why our government is delivering a major investment that accelerates construction to get it done for parents, students, and communities.”
The investment is part of the Ontario government’s commitment to provide $14 billion to support school construction over 10 years. Since 2018, the government has approved more than 300 child care and education building-related projects, with more than 100 actively under construction.
“These investments are just one of the ways we’re building critical infrastructure – such as schools, hospitals, long-term care homes and public transit – that Ontarians rely on,” added Infrastructure Minister Kinga Surma.

North Oshawa Public Secondary School will be located on Bridle Road in Oshawa.
