A call has gone out to prospective builders for the reconstruction of Mississauga Hospital.

The official request for proposals (RFP) asks for bids from companies for the cost of the redesign of the Queensway/Hurontario St. facility that once complete, will make it one of the largest healthcare facilities in the country.

The successful bidder will then work with Ontario Ministry of Health, Infrastructure Ontario and the Trillium Health Partners to further design the hospital.

The plan calls for a complete redevelopment of the existing hospital site that will include expanded emergency and surgical areas as well as patient rooms and a parking structure. The bidding process will continue through the summer.

With work scheduled to begin in 2025, the hospital will eventually triple in size and rise 23-stories to accommodate 350 more patient beds.

The Ontario government will be pay for most of the construction costs while the City of Mississauga will contribute a yet-to-be-determined amount.
