NIagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati, right, listens to Premier Doug Ford make a campaign statement during the last provincial election.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford is in Niagara Falls today (August 26) at noon to make a major announcement.

While his office was mum on the subject of the announcement, it is known that he’ll be joined by Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney, which certainly narrows the possibility.

With Mulroney on hand, it means the announcement is most likely centered on traffic corridor matters.

With waiting times increasing dramatically and severe staff shortages, Ontario’s health system have been the hot-button topic for Ford over the past few weeks.

Last week, the province announced a strategy for “health-care system stability and recovery,” saying they will be  freeing up beds in hospitals and long-term care facilities and hiring of thousands of new health-care workers.

That announcement was roundly criticized by health-care workers as it avoided any mention of repealing Bill 124, which caps nurse salaries to a one per cent increase annually.
