UPDATE: Alectra says customers may be without power until at least 7 p.m.

Crews are working to restore power to nearly 500 Brampton homes and businesses as outages are being reported across southern Ontario.

Alectra Utilities said approximately 477 customers were left without power around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, with businesses and residences near the border with Mississauga impacted.

Alectra says the blackout is in the area of Chinguacousy Road to Dixie Rd, and from Stafford Drive to Hwy 407, and that a pin broke on the utility pole at Kennedy Road and Steeles Avenue.

Repair crews are already on site working to bring the lights back on, with Alectra saying service is expected to be restored between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Another outage was also reported in Mississauga on Wednesday impacting another 542 homes and businesses in the area of Lakeshore Road and Southdown Road.

A special weather statement was issued for Southern Ontario on Wednesday with Alectra expecting strong winds gusting between 70 and 80km/h, along with a sudden temperature drop.
