UPDATE: Alectra says all service was restored by around 1:30 p.m.

Crews are working to restore power after an outage left more than 5,000 homes and businesses in the dark in Brampton on Wednesday (Oct. 11).

Alectra said shortly before 11 a.m. that some 5,379 homes and businesses in the area of Goreway Drive and Highway 50 were without power.

Service has been mostly restored but the utility provider says there are still more than 400 customers still in the dark.

Alectra has not said what led to the blackout but says repair crews are working to fix the outage. No time frame has been given on when customers can expect the issue to be resolved.
