A power outage is currently affecting 144 homes and businesses in Hamilton with restoration times anticipated for early afternoon.

Alectra Utilities first reported the outage shortly after 10 a.m. today (Mar. 4) saying 144 homes and businesses were left without power.

The areas affected are Maple St, Woodland Ave, and Wolseley Ave.

Crew members have been dispatched to work on the issue, and an estimated time of 12:30 p.m. has been given.

The cause for the outage has not been provided, but could be due to last night’s blizzard that impacted Hamilton and much of southern Ontario.

According to a recent tweet by the City of Hamilton, residents woke up to 25 cm of snow this morning. The heavy snowfall caused numerous downed trees, closed roads and led vehicles in to ditches.

The lack of visibility and unsafe travel conditions caused many of Hamilton’s city staff to pause operations in localized areas to ensure the safety of driver’s.

It is advised that residents avoid non-essential travel while the roads are being cleared and to remain indoors.
