The trip along Highway 6 North in Flamborough is going to feel a little less colourful as one of the landmarks along the busy rural highway announced recently that it would be closing for good.

Grasshopper Imports Inc. announced this week that it would be shuttering its colourful shop after more than 30 years in business.

“We are starting a new chapter; enjoying family, friends and sooo much more,” owners Ange and Greg Betts said in a social media post announcing the closure.

“You guys are amazing & we are so blessed to have been able to enjoy this ride for so long 1990-2022.”

The shop and outdoor market is the place Hamiltonians would venture out to to find funky imported clothing, jewellery, home and yard decor and pottery.

Grasshopper got its start out of the back of a van that travelled to flea markets, beaches, concerts and festivals but settled into its current spot in the 90s and ever since, the rainbow-coloured shop has welcomed curiosity seekers and weary travellers alike to its eclectic doorstep.

As the Betts prepare the shop for its closure in the coming weeks, the Grasshopper will be hosting a sale until the end of April to clear out its current stock.

The sale starts this coming Friday (April 15) and runs until the end of the month.

Hours until then are Tuesday-Thursday 10-2 and Friday-Sunday 10-5. On Mondays, the shop is closed.

More information about Grasshopper Imports can be found on the shop’s website or on social media until the shop closes later this spring.
