Mississauga shoppers appear to be evenly split on how they will buy Christmas gifts this year. About half are ready to venture back into the malls while others seem content to keep buying online.

The latest poll conducted by insauga.com through Instagram Stories asked the question: Will you be shopping at malls or online this Christmas season?

Mississauga Christmas poll

The poll shows that 48 per cent say they will visit malls, while 52 per cent say they will shop online.

Conducted over a period of 24-hours, 1,701 people participated by providing an answer.

The results are consistent with national polls that show people are ready to head back into the malls even though the pandemic is not over and new cases of COVID-19 continue to rise.

That wasn’t the case just a year ago where several national polls on average indicated 75 per cent of people said they would do Christmas shopping through the internet.

Another major difference this year that malls and stores are widely open while in 2020 many restrictions were in place that complicated in-person shopping.

In any case, health experts do warn that COVID-19 is still very much a reality and that the wearing of masks, maintaining social distancing, hand washing, and, of course, getting fully vaccinated are the best precautions to take if you venture out of your homes in the weeks ahead.
