Mississauga residents are sticking with “city centre” over “downtown”.

A new insauga.com poll shows that Mississaugans still use the traditional name of city centre when describing the area around Hurontario St. and Burnhamthorpe Rd. which includes Square One, City Hall and plenty of high-rises apartments and condos.

The results follow a recent promotional video produced by the City of Mississauga that refers to the area as “downtown” instead of the time honoured “city centre”.

The poll asked the question: Do you call it “city centre’ or “downtown” Mississauga?

Of the 1,704 respondents, 1,084 (64 per cent) call the area city centre while 620 (36 per cent) say downtown.
