Police looking for suspect in Whitby hit-and-run

Durham Police Central West officers were called to a private parking lot in Whitby at 80 Thickson Rd. S. just before 4 p.m. after reports of a fail to remain.

The victim, a 23-year-old woman, was in the parking lot when the suspect vehicle made minor contact with her car. The suspect vehicle, which is described only as a brown SUV drove away and the driver ran after the suspect vehicle trying to stop them from driving off. The female was dragged and sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries.

She was taken to a trauma centre. The suspect vehicle was last seen going southbound on Thickson Road.

There are no suspect descriptors at this time. The vehicle is described as a beige/tan SUV.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and provide statements to police. Investigators are also looking for any video surveillance or dash-cam footage from drivers in the area around the time of the collision.
