Halton Police are looking for the public’s help in identifying a group of men involved in a series of purse and wallet thefts in Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills.

Police say through April 2021 and March 2022 the group of six males have been involved in 16 thefts totalling a value of an estimated $25,000 throughout Halton Region.

The men often target older adults in retail and grocery stores.

In many cases the victim’s personal identification number were also stolen, and the tap functions of their financial cards were used to make fraudulent purchases.

Police say the suspects have been working in pairs, distracting their victims while shopping.

One of the suspects will begin a conversation with the victim while the other will proceed to steal their wallet and/or purse.

The men are also targeting the vehicles of older adults, with one distracting the senior by helping them load their groceries into the car.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact Detective Constable Derek Gray of the 3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777, ext. 2344 or via email at [email protected].

Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or through the web at www.haltoncrimestoppers.ca.
