A woman who was stabbed to death at a busy Mississauga Canadian Tire on Monday night (Sept. 19) has been identified by police as the wife of a man now charged in her murder.

Chaos seized the Canadian Tire at Mavis and Britannia Rds. shortly before 6 p.m. on Monday.

Reports started to come into Peel Regional Police regarding a man and woman injured in a stabbing. Numerous customers fled the busy store and many called police.

When police arrived, they found a woman suffering from stab wounds inside the store. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A man was found with minor injuries and was taken to hospital while also being placed in police custody.

Last night (Sept. 21), police identified the slain woman as Chandanpreet Kaur, 22, of Mississauga.

Her husband, Charanjeet Singh, 26, also of Mississauga, has been charged with first-degree murder.

The two had been married for three years.

Shortly after the violent incident, Const. Phillip Yake addressed a media scrum in the parking lot. He shared few details about what had transpired in the store because the “investigation is still in its infancy.”

Anyone with information is urged to call police at 905-453-2121, ext. 3205.
