Police attend Pickering home after 401 road rage shooting

Durham Regional Police were at a home in Pickering this afternoon following up on reported gunfire on Hwy 401. This investigation led to a nearby school to implement a hold a secure and closed down lane of the 401.

In a release around 2 p.m. Sept 7, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt announced the investigation. He said Toronto OPP officers were investigating a road rage incident that evolved into a shooting.

Hours prior, around 9:30 a.m., two cars were headed eastward down the Hwy 401 in collector lanes by Kennedy Rd in Scarborough when the incident took place.

The victim reported a driver of black BMW X5 rolled down his window and presented a gun. The victim reportedly heard a shot fire. No one was reported injured by the gunfire.

The OPP, in charge of all Ontario highways, responded to the area shortly there after. They shut down parts of Hwys 401 and 404 as well as sections of the Don Valley Pkwy.

Durham Regional Police came in to aid the investigation and later responded to a home on Glengrove Rd just off Pickering’s major thoroughfare Kingston Rd.

The area is a small residential neighbourhood and home to Glengrove Public School. This school implemented hold and secure protocols around 10 a.m to keep the kids indoors. The hold and secure lifted procedure around 1 p.m.

Glengrove P.S. later confirmed all their students and staff were safe.
