Photo radar will be installed along busy sections of major Hamilton streets in an effort to get drivers to slow down.

The targeted sections are along King and Main Sts. which have been identified as areas where speeding has led to several accidents involving pedestrians.

Four locations will be used:

  • Main St. between Gage Ave. and Delta St.
  • Main St. between Dundurn St. and Queen St.
  • King St. between Dundurn St. and Locke St.
  • King St. between Gage Ave. and Lottridge St.

Drivers who are caught speeding in these targeted areas will face higher than usual fines based on how fast they are going.

The move comes after a City reported indicated that high rate of pedestrian collisions along these routes. As another safety measure will see signal lights adjusted to give pedestrians more time to cross the street and the restrictions of right turns on red lights at several intersections.
