Peel Region holds first council meeting with elected officials from Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon this week

Regional councillors from Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon gather for the first meeting following the October election.

Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie is calling for a split from Peel but for now the two-tier government continues with the city.

The regional council meets in Peel Regional council chambers, 10 Peel Centre Dr. in Brampton on Thursday (Nov. 17) at 9:30 a.m.

This first meeting is mostly ceremonial with no discussion matters on the agenda. The new councillors are sworn in and then the council appoints a regional chair.

The chair is elected by the members of regional council to preside over council meetings and to ensure its decisions are implemented.

The new council is made up of representatives from all three municipalities with some new faces this term including Caledon’s newly elected Mayor Annette Groves, Caledon Councillor Mario Russo, Brampton Councillor Gurpartap Singh Toor, and Mississauga councillors Alvin Tedjo, Joe Horneck, Martin Reid and Brad Butt.


The new regional council is made up of the following members.

Caledon:

  • Mayor Annette Groves
  • Ward 1, 2, 3 Councillor Christina Early
  • Ward 4, 5, 6  Councillor Mario Russo

Brampton:

  • Mayor Patrick Brown
  • Ward 1, 5 Councillor Paul Vicente
  • Ward 2, 6 Councillor Michael Palleschi
  • Ward 3, 4 Councillor Martin Medeiros
  • Ward 7, 8 Councillor Pat Fortini
  • Ward 9, 10 Councillor Gurpartap Singh

Mississauga:

  • Mayor Bonnie Crombie
  • Ward 1 Councillor Stephen Dasko
  • Ward 2 Councillor Alvin Tedjo
  • Ward 3 Councillor Chris Fonseca
