Peel cops look to Mississauga, Brampton and beyond for new recruits

Peel Regional Police are looking for a few good men and women in Mississauga, Brampton and beyond to join their ranks.

In fact, the second-largest municipal police force in Ontario and third-largest in Canada is looking for more than a few new recruits to add to its complement of 2,163 uniform officers.

Peel police say their goals in recruitment are to:

  • attract and retain professional and skilled employees that represent the community
  • develop and implement initiatives to support diversity, equity and inclusion
  • promote the well-being of their employees and provide resources and opportunities for development, training and promotion

Peel police say they offer a comprehensive health benefits package for both sworn and civilian positions that kicks in after six months on the job.

In addition, they say, the salary is pretty good.

Here’s what a police officer in Peel earns:

  • Cadet, second class–$48,936
  • Cadet, first class–$53,829
  • Recruit constable–$58,722
  • Constable, fourth class–$68,509
  • Constable, third class–$78,297
  • Constable, second class–$88,083
  • Constable, first class–$105,535

Peel police say they serve one of the most diverse regions in the country, a region of some 1.4 million people.

Additionally, Peel cops also police Pearson Airport in Mississauga, which handled 13.3 million passengers in 2020.

In addition to its uniform officers, Peel police employs 914 civilian members and 30 cadets.
