The lights are ready to be turned on in Halton Hills.

For the 15th consecutive year the Light Up The Hills Festival will be on full display at several locations throughout the town.

Commencing December 1 at 6:30 p.m. at Dominion Gardens Park in Georgetown, the festival will get underway featuring live entertainment, hotdogs and hot chocolate as well as a special visit from Santa and Obie the CN Safety Train.

Then, until January 15 from 5 to 11 p.m. each night, the lights will continue to shine at Dominion Gardens Park, Shelagh Law Parkette in Glen Williams and Acton Sport Park in Acton.

There is no charge to attend and reservations are not required.

Light Up The Hills has become one of Halton Hills’ favourite traditions starting in 2008 when the first trees were lit up at Dominion Gardens Park.

The vision of former Citizen of the Year Gerry Kentner, the festival has grown each year to include more lights that attract more families to gather to and celebrate Christmas and the holiday season.

“(Gerry) felt that people and families needed something to experience and enjoy in the great outdoors with family and friends,” according to a statement on Light Up The Hills website. “It was important to Gerry that this event be free to all and it has remained that way to this day.”

While all events surrounding the lights are free, contributions are accepted through donations, draws and the purchase of gift items.
