There’s a new wave of exhibits and events to enjoy at the Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives in Brampton next month, including a look at unique and rarely-seen pieces in the vault for a limited time.

Summer programming at the Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives (PAMA) is heating up with a bevy of new exhibitions opening in August.

From learning how to become a super sleuth or taking in the Japanese tradition of forest bathing, to experiencing detailed hand-carved Inuit sculptures and celebrating women in tech, there’s a wide range of new attractions to catch your interest.

Here are just some of the exhibits you can take in at PAMA this summer:

THAT’S SO RANDOM: Highlights from the Art Gallery Collection

To mark the 55th anniversary of PAMA, the art gallery staff delved deep into the vault to each select work that speaks to the breadth of the art collection. This is an opportunity to reflect on the composition of our holdings that have defined our collecting practices for over five decades.

Be a Detective

Calling all art and history sleuths, as the Be A Detective program is back by popular demand. The month-long program lets you channel your inner detective to explore PAMA, solve a mystery and create your own works of art. The event runs all through August and you’ll be entered to win a prize for completing four activities.

Modern Batik Workshop with Deon Best

Batik is an art form that uses wax and dye to create designs on fabric, and guests can explore the East African fabric art of with Bampton artist Deon Best.

Forest Bathing

Discover a practice that brings people closer to nature and supports healing and wellness through natural environments. Forest therapy is inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku, which translates to “forest bathing.” Experience the benefits of slow-paced wandering in nature with a trained forest therapy guide on this guided journey.

But that’s not all you can find at PAMA next month, as there are plenty more exhibitions like a sculpture gallery of the Inuit goddess of the sea, artwork exploring little-known places in the region, and a look at the history of the Peel County Jail among others.

For more information about all the exhibits at PAMA visit pama.peelregion.ca. Operated by the Region of Peel, PAMA is located at 9 Wellington Street East in Brampton.
