Mississauga and Brampton collectively saw over 80 break and enters over the last 31 days, according to police data.

Peel Regional Police’s crime mapping application has recorded 84 break-ins across both cities between May 14 and June 14.

The two cities saw a similar number of incidents, with 43 occurring in Mississauga and 41 in Brampton.

Data indicates that almost half of the break-ins (43) targeted houses, 21 targeted general businesses, and a few were reported at apartments, restaurants, and construction sites.

A school, pharmacy, and residential garage/shed also reported being broken into.

As of June 14, 70 of these incidents are still under investigation, 10 have been reported as solved, and four reported as unsolved.

Residents are advised to maintain a safe home and prevent break-ins by following these tips provided by police:

  • Keep shrubs and hedges around your property maintained to allow for clear lines of sight to all
    accessible windows and doors.
  • Ensure garage and screen doors are locked, even while at home.
  • Get to know your neighbours and look out for each other’s properties.
  • Consider installing a second locking device for windows and any sliding doors.
