Outdoor rink at Rick Hull Park in Pickering now open

The outdoor ice rink at Rick Hull Memorial Park is now open for public use.
The rink is the first of three outdoor rinks – and one of two facilities – in Pickering to get the green light this season.
Staff are busy preparing rinks at Forestbrook Park (also new) and Claremont Memorial Park, which was operational last season. The rinks will open only when the temperature allows for ice to be made: the weather must remain below -4º (24ºF) for several days before attempting to flood, and the entire rink must be completely frozen to ensure the safety of users.
The other rinks should be open this weekend or early next week, weather permitting.
Ice sheets at Rick Hull Memorial Park (591 Rosebank Road, south of Highway 401) and Forestbrook Park are 60 x100 ft while Claremont’s surface is full size.
Each rink is fenced and secured, with picnic tables and garbage cans in range and will be open every day from 9 am to 5 pm. The rinks are unsupervised and helmets are strongly encouraged.

While there is no capacity limit, remember to follow public health guidelines to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and keep each other safe. Stay two metres apart from people outside of your household and wear a mask when physical distancing is difficult.
City staff will aim to clear the snow from the rinks after each weather event but note that road and sidewalk winter control operations will take priority.
