The Oshawa Generals knew they were going to be in tough in their first round playoff series against the Ottawa 67s.

Ottawa was the best team in the OHL for most of season, won the season series over Oshawa 7-2 and finished a whopping 49 points ahead of the 8th-seeded Generals.

But four days after a 10-2 beatdown in the final game of the season that meant nothing in the standings, a 7-0 crushing in a game that meant a lot more is a bit concerning as Ottawa got two goals from Luca Pinelli in the first period and never looked back, peppering Oshawa netminder Jacob Oster with 56 shots in coasting to victory.

Jack Matier and Frankie Marrelli also scored twice while Brady Stonehouse got the other Ottawa goal.

Oshawa will have to regroup and find a way to get back on even terms in game two at the Slush Puppie Centre in Gatineau, PQ, the temporary home of the 67s while TD Place Arena plays host to the World Curling Championships.

The series shifts to Oshawa next Tuesday and Thursday.

In other playoff openers in the Eastern Conference Peterborough doubled up Sudbury 4-2 and Barrie rode a six-point performance from Team Canada’s Brandt Clarke to punish Hamilton 10-2.
