Oshawa’s Ontario Regiment ‘Tank’ Museum opens for the season

Oshawa’s Tank Museum is back in business after its holiday hiatus, time used to complete some renovations and prepare the M7 Priest Exhibit for public viewing.
The Ontario Regiment RCAC Museum, home to the largest collection of operational military vehicles in North America, will be open Noon to 4 Friday to Sunday all winter and by appointment ([email protected]) for group tours.
There’s lots to see at the museum, including the brand new M7 Priest Exhibit, showcased by their newest acquisition – a rare WW2 Howitzer Motor Carriage M7B1, better known as the M7 ‘Priest.’
Museum staff have created an educational exhibit around the tank and its history – many M7 Priests landed on the shores of Juno Beach with the Canadians on D-Day – as well as the story behind its acquisition and of its epic journey from a German scrap heap to a Dutch restoration specialist to the port of Halifax and finally the museum in Oshawa.

Visitors can also enjoy the museum’s gallery that takes you through 200 years of Canadian military history and enter the hanger to see more than 50 machines on display on any given day. Some are static restoration projects but most are fully operational and can be see in action on Tank Saturdays when museum staff and volunteers re-enact war-time battles.
Tank Saturdays return February 11 for ‘Winter Warfare.’
