A pair of teenagers from Oshawa face charges after allegedly crashing a stolen car.

Durham Regional Police spotted the car speeding south on Park Rd near Renaissance Dr. through a residential neighborhood in south Oshawa near Lake Ontario. The officer raced after the car and attempted to stop it. However, the car continued to speed away so the officer broke off pursuit for public safety.

Later, officers found the car crashed a short distance away on Stone and Cedar Sts. They learned the car had been stolen and “multiple parties” had fled the crash site. They found a replica fire arm and an extended magazine in the car. A short while later officers discovered a suspected driver and passenger. Both were arrested without incident.

A 17-year-old boy faces several charges including possession of a prohibited device and and possession of stolen property. A 17-year-old girl was also charged with possession of property obtained by crime. The boy has been held until a bail hearing while the girl was released with conditions. Both of their identities are protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
