Oshawa stacked townhouse project gets sent back to staff for review

A stacked townhouse project proposed for an older neighbourhood just north-east of Oshawa’s downtown has raised the ire of some local residents who believe the scope of the proposal is too much for their community.
The project, from Downing Street Group, calls for three, three-storey condominium apartments with 157 stacked townhomes with balconies in all, to be located off Ritson Road, just north of Adelaide Avenue.
Most of the residential concerns arose from the number of units abutting an established neighbourhood where many of the homes were built in the 1940s, with one letter writer complaining at Oshawa’s Development Services Committee meeting Monday that the influx of that many people will “negatively impact the quality of life” for local residents.
Other concerned citizens cited traffic problems, with one resident noting that vehicles at the Canada Post facility – which would be immediately to the south of the project – already have difficulties entering and exiting the property.
The community has seen a huge influx of commercial activity to the south of the proposed townhomes in recent years, highlighted by the Costco Plaza on the south-west corner of Ritson and Adelaide.
The proposal, which would require zoning amendments, was referred back to staff for further review.
