“Drop the groceries. I think we won big,” were words Cindy Milosh did not expect to hear from her husband George when the Oshawa retiree came home from shopping in mid-January.

“We were laughing with excitement,” she remembered of their $1 million windfall. “We couldn’t believe it.”

George and Cindy Milosh won the cool million in the LOTTO 6/49 Gold Ball draw on January 14, with George, a retired supply French teacher, lifelong Oshawa resident and part of a family famed for their involvement in restaurants in Oshawa and Whitby for generations.

George Milosh said they play lottery games weekly. “The morning after buying the ticket, I checked our numbers and thought ‘Wow, these look close to our numbers,'” he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up their winnings.

The couple plan to put their win toward their grandchildren’s education and go on vacation. “It will definitely be helpful now that were both retired,” he said.

LOTTO 6/49 offers players a chance to win two multi-million dollar jackpots every Wednesday and Saturday, for the same $3 per play. The Classic Draw offers a fixed $5 million jackpot for every draw, while the Gold Ball Draw guarantees a $1 million prize, or the growing jackpot that starts at $10 million and can exceed $60 million.

The winning ticket was purchased at Lovell Drugs on Rossland Road in Oshawa.
