An Oshawa mother is going to put her windfall towards her first home after a second-place LOTTO 6/49 of more than $68,000 in the Feb. 22 draw.
Brittany Hance, who has been playing the lottery since she turned 18, is enjoying her first big win.
“It was a Sunday morning when my husband reminded me to check my tickets. He’d seen on the news that someone in the area had won the $40 million LOTTO MAX jackpot,” she said while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. “I checked my tickets on the OLG app and when I scanned my LOTTO 6/49, I realised it was a winning ticket!”
Hance thought it might be a glitch or a mistake. “It was an emotional moment … so I asked my mom to check my ticket on her phone,” she added. “She scanned the ticket and began shrieking with excitement. Even though she was in shock, she reminded me to sign my ticket right away.”
Hance then texted her husband at work to share the news. “He thought I was joking and told me to send him a screenshot as proof. When he saw the ‘Big Winner’ message, he was speechless,” she giggled. “He was shocked, but so happy for us. It kind of feels like a gift, since I won this prize two days before my birthday!”
The winning ticket was purchased at Petro-Canada on Taunton Road East in Oshawa.
