A man from Oshawa is feeling relieved after a major lottery win decades in the making.

John Liscombe, 53, has been playing Lotto 6/49 for 35 years but had never pulled a major win. This changed when he entered the Petro Canada on Victoria St. in Whitby on Christmas Eve.

Inside he picked up a 6/49 ticket for the Super Ball prize which includes 10 guaranteed $100,000 prizes. “I checked my ticket on the OLG App and thought there was a glitch. I couldn’t believe it. I checked it numerous times,” Liscombe told the OLG.

Liscombe rushed to tell his wife, daughter and mother about the win. The three didn’t believe him at first but, “They were very happy,” Liscombe said.

He’s planning on taking his family out for a celebratory dinner and paying off some bills, noting “This is a weight lifted off my shoulders.” However he “may also take a trip to Vancouver.”
