Oshawa artists, where you at?

The City of Oshawa has launched its first-ever artist-initiated open call, with applications accepted from wide range of artistic disciplines, from dance and multi-disciplinary art to music, theatre, literature, media arts and visual arts.

Artists can apply for projects with budgets ranging from $100 to $4,000. Projects that are selected will be presented or installed between July and December 2023.

“We are eager to engage with local artists to create more space for arts and culture and share unique and novel experiences with the public,” declared a statement from Culture Counts Oshawa, adding that the new program will provide increased support for artists, collectives, and arts groups by providing the opportunity for the arts community to propose ideas to enhance the cultural fabric of the city.

Applications are being accepted in two streams:

Artist Projects

  • Projects should be short-term, lasting from a few hours to a maximum of seven days.
  • Examples include workshops, performances, temporary installations, digital projections/projects, interactive installations, sound/light installations, etc.

Temporary Public Artworks

  • Applications will be accepted for temporary public artworks proposals, which will be exhibited for up to three years.
  • Examples of temporary public artworks include temporary installations, environmental art/land art, temporary sculptures, etc.
