Calum Ritchie, Oshawa Generals

Oshawa General star forward Cal Ritchie is 2024’s first Player of the Month in the Ontario Hockey League.

Despite being out for the first month of the season with an upper-body injury Ritchie has jumped into the team lead in scoring with 47 points in just 28 games. In January, the first-line centreman and Colorado Avalanche first-round draft pick racked up nine goals and 17 assists for 26 points (with +19) in the span of 13 games.

Going into February, Ritchie is riding a five-game point streak with a dozen points in those matches.

The 2005-born Oakville native is in his third season with the Generals after being drafted second overall in the 2021 OHL Selection Draft. He was picked 27th overall last June by Colorado, the fourth OHLer taken in that draft and the top performer this season of the four.

The 6’2” forward already has taken on a leadership role with the Generals and wears an ‘A’ on his sweater.

Ritchie and the Generals are back in action Sunday at the Tribute Centre in Oshawa for a date with the Brantford Bulldogs, the last club to beat Oshawa in regulation back on January 17.
