The Oshawa Generals are through to the second round of the OHL playoffs after a 3-0 win in Barrie Sunday night to win their opening round series in six games.

Oshawa goalie Jacob Oster, after watching his Barrie counterpart Sam Hillebrandt steal a couple of games earlier in the series, was not going to let the series go to seven, stopping 32 shots for the shutout and earning first star status.

Cal Ritchie, with a nifty deflection of a Luca D’Amato shot five minutes into the game scored the only goal the Generals would need and Luke Torrance added his third of the series in the second period to give Oshawa a little breathing room.

Connor Punnett, shorthanded and with Hillebrandt on the bench, iced the match with an empty netter in the final minute.

Oshawa will open the second round against Friday at home against the Ottawa 67s, who finished nine points behind Oshawa in the final standings but won the season series 6-2.

Oshawa did win their last matchup over Ottawa, a 5-4 decision March 5.
