With the health and well-being of athletes being the “number one priority,” the Oshawa Generals have added a sport psychologist to their hockey operations staff this season.

Dr. Dana Sinclair is a registered psychologist who serves as a consultant for many business organizations and professional sport franchises. She consults for the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks, the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers, the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes, MLS’s Los Angeles Football Club, IndyCar Racing as well as a number of NHL and Olympic athletes.

She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Ottawa in Sports Psychology as well as a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge in Experimental Psychology.

“It’s so important for our players to have someone like Dr. Sinclair. Everybody went through a lot during the past 18 months but if you’re an elite athlete you were all but shut off from your craft,” General Manager Roger Hunt said. “These players play at a high level under a great deal of scrutiny and pressure from many avenues. Playing well, keeping their grades, living away from home – these are all factors that Dr. Sinclair will make positives and help make our players mentally stronger.”

Sinclair will be available to the players both in group and individual settings whenever they may need it.

In other team news, the Generals are hoping an extra big body on their blueline will help them get on the winning track after an 0-3 start.

Oshawa acquired overage 6’4” defenseman Mathew Hill from the Barrie Colts in exchange for a 5th round pick in 2024.

Hill, who hails from Oakville, has played in 158 career OHL games, all with the Barrie Colts. He has five goals and 20 assists in those games to go along with 108 penalty minutes. Last season, Hill spent time over in Denmark, playing for Esbjerg U20.

The Anaheim Ducks drafted hill in the 6th round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

The Generals also have an internship opportunity for an Assistant Equipment Manager for those interested in joining the club. The job is unpaid but comes with great opportunities to learn and advance in the field.  The successful applicant will:

  • Assist in the daily operation/functions of the dressing room and equipment room.
  • Assist in distribution, storage, security, and accountability of all athletic equipment.
  • Assist in the laundering of uniforms, practice gear, towels, and other materials used on a daily basis.
  • Assist in locker room breakdown for home/visiting teams.
  • Assist with team practices and games.
  • Assist in packing equipment for team travel.
  • Assist with practice and game-day setup
