Oshawa driver tries to flee a traffic stop, winds up stuck in a Scugog cornfield, police say

A man from Oshawa is facing impaired driving charges after he tried to avoid a police traffic stop and wound up stuck in a cornfield in Scugog.
An officer on patrol spotted the car around 1 a.m. on January 15 driving erratically with a flat tire in the Simcoe Street and Shirley Road, about 7 km South of Port Perry.
The officer called another car for backup and the pair got into position to initiate a traffic stop. According to police, the driver tried to avoid the cruiser in front of him, but ended up hitting the police car.
The driver then tried to reverse away, according to police, and backed up into the cruiser behind him as well. The officers were able to box the car in between them, and push it into the ditch on the side of the road.
However, the driver tried to escape the ditch, police allege, driving into a neighbouring cornfield were he ended up stuck. Neither the officers nor the driver were injured, and the driver was arrested.
The driver, 27 from Oshawa is charged with dangerous driving, impaired driving, driving while impaired exceeding the blood-alcohol limit and fleeing from police.
